Bolton CAMRA Social – Bolton Local Social – Saturday 30th September 2023
Once again, the train strike on Saturday 30 September means we have to cancel the trip to Preston. We could use the bus, but it takes a long time from Bolton, approximately 1.5 hours.
Therefore, the social will be in Bolton as it is easy to access by bus for many of us. We can meet at One for the Road in the Market at 12.30ish. Food is available for anyone who wants to eat. The group will then move on to Great Ale at the Vaults
One for the Road, Stalls F14 to F15 Ashburner Street Lifestyle Hall, BL1 1TJ, 3 ales, 2 of which are changing.
Great Ale at the Vaults, Vaults Below Market Place, BL1 2AL, 3 ales, 2 of which are changing.
Once at Great Ale we can decide which pubs we will visit in the centre of Bolton.
If you need any further details or need to contact on the day, please contact social@bolton.camra.org.uk or call Gill on 07967585670

Bolton CAMRA Social – Preston Pub Festival – Saturday 30th September 2023
Preston Pub Festival came about when 11 good friends who each own a pub or bar decided it was time to celebrate the rich heritage of the city’s ale houses. They recognised that by working together they could have a weekend set aside, away from all other going on in the city, that would be dedicated to their pubs and the beers they sell as well as other drinks.
Details of the Pubs and their opening times can be found on the website http://prestonpubfestival.com/about/
Some may choose to visit the pubs on Friday 29th September but for those who want to make a Bolton CAMRA Social of it then meet at The Guild Ale House, 56 Lancaster Road, Preston, PR1 1DD at 12.30. Just a short walk from the Bus Station and the Market.
For those catching the train please check with the National Rail website as there are some cheaper advance tickets which will save some money.
There is also the option of catching the 125 bus from Bolton (10.27) or Horwich (10.56) arriving in Preston at 12.11. This may be a better choice for those with bus passes or who live the Preston side of Bolton.
If you need any further details or need to contact on the day, please contact social@bolton.camra.org.uk or call Gill on 07967585670

Bolton CAMRA Social – Torrside Brewery – Saturday 9th September 2023
A trip to Torrside is always a good day out. Catch the train from Bolton to New Mills Newtown. The walk to the Brewery is about three minutes. Meet at Bolton station to catch the 10.54
I have checked the trains from Bolton and there is a train at 10.54 which arrives at Torrside 12.26 (including a 35 minute at Manchester Piccadilly). This train has an advance ticket of £3.20. There are return tickets between 16.39 and 18.10 which also has reduced advance tickets.
I suggest you look at the National Rail website to work out which is the best ticket option for you. Those with Bus and Train passes can travel most of the journey for free if they have the £10 train addition to the GM bus pass.
If you need any further details or need to contact on the day, please contact social@bolton.camra.org.uk or call Gill on 07967585670

Pub of the Season Summer 2023 – The Ale Stop, Buxton
The High Peak, Tameside and N.E. Cheshire CAMRA Pub of the Season for Summer 2023 is the Ale Stop on Chapel Street in Buxton.
This former converted wine shop was the first micropub in Buxton and opened nine years ago. The current owner, Richard Andrew, has been there six years and has continued its aim as a good community pub offering continually changing beers from microbreweries (both near and far) on four handpumps; also two or three boxed ciders. Richard’s objective is to bring to Buxton beers and ciders which are rarely seen in the town. The Ale Stop has always had a music theme which is reflected in the decor plus an eclectic choice of background music on vinyl is played, with live music events taking place on at least one Sunday each month.
On a wet Saturday in August, all too common this Summer, CAMRA members and local patrons met for the presentation, which was made to Richard Andrew by High Peak Branch member Geoff Williamson.
