Bolton CAMRA Branch Social – Torrside Brewery Tap – Saturday 24 September 2022

Torrside Brewery Tap is open from 12.00-20.00. There are two stations at New Mills. Travelling to New Mills Central is £13.00 with a 15-minute walk to the brewery. New Mill Newtown is nearer but costs £16.50. However, split tickets can save money. There are regular trains to New Mills and Northern are running an offer of a limited number of £1 tickets but they will soon go. Normal prices of a split ticket from Bolton to New Mills Newtown.

An example is catching the 10.22 from Bolton station to Stockport arriving at 11.01 costing £7.10 but those with a bus pas which includes the train can do this for nothing. Catch the 11.08 from Stockport to New Mills Newtown arriving at 11.39 at the cost of £6.00

The suggestion is that people make their own arrangements for the train and meet after 12.00 at the Brewery Tap.

I won’t be going but if you need information on the day please contact me, Gill on 07967585670

Bolton CAMRA Branch – Preston Social – Saturday 13th August 2022

Preston Social joining with Southport & West Lancs CAMRA

Joining with other branches mean a larger group than normal so there are one of three routes that can be taken to ensure the groups are not too large.

Meet at Guild Ale House (No 7) 12:15

Route 1: Walk down Fishergate to the traffic lights just before the river. Turn left into South Meadow Lane and walk down to the end for The Continental (No 3 on the map). Work your way back the same way you came calling at Old Vic (No 12), Winkley Ale House (No 19), Wings & Beer (No 20), Hopwoods Tap House (No 9), Bull & Royal (No 2), Hogarth (No 8), Twelve Tellers (No 17).

Route 2: Walk back along the front of the bus station and cross the A59 Ringway at the pelican crossing onto North Road (A6). Continue along North Road to Moorbrook (No 11 on the map), continue along A6 (becomes Garstang Road) and turn left into Aqueduct Street the right into Cambridge Walk after a short distance. At The end in the road find The Princess Alice (No 16) Retrace your steps back down the A6 and take a left where it branches into Moor Lane, follow Moor Lane for a bit then take a right into Victoria Street. Walk to the end and cross Fylde Road for Guild (No 6). Walk down Fylde Road to the roundabout by the university and cross in Friargate continuing down to Friargate Tap Room (No 4), Plau (No 15), Greyfriar (No 5). Cross Ringway to Plug and Taps (No 14).

Route 3: Leave Guild Ale House and turn right then sharp left to Orchard (No 13 on the map), continue to the pubs not mentioned in the above

Several train companies have called a strike on 13th August, but it appears that Northern is not one of them.  Please check before arranging to travel on the train. The times for the train are 11.21 from Bolton Station arriving at Preston 11.57 followed by a walk to the Guild Ale House. The return fare is £11.50

Alternatively, there is the 125 bus from Bolton to Preston which runs regularly but does take over an hour from Bolton to Preston. Catch the 10.44 bus from Bolton Bus station, calling at Horwich Crown at 11.13 and arriving in Preston at 12.23. I think the Adult day rider is £5.00 but may need to check

Please contact Gill, Social secretary if you need more information, social@bolton.camra.org.uk or 07967585670. I will not be on the trip, but I can contact someone who is.

Attached is the leaflet showing the real ale pubs in Preston. The leaflet can be downloaded here.
