The Railway Broadheath re-opens

After being closed for a long time, and having received a sympathetic refurbishment which has preserved the original features the Railway in Broadheath has re-opened as an Irish themed pub

Inside has been cleaned and re-painted. The original seating has been retained and re-covered. Some missing arms have been wonderfully reproduced and replaced. The lounge has had the carpeting removed to reveal original oak parquet flooring.  The fireplace is as was with the mirror and a real fire. There are now TVs for sport.

The kitchen has been replaced and food will be available soon. The toilets have been tiled and painted

Outside additional seating has been provided with six picnic tables and umbrellas along the side of the building.

Jerry the landlord says  he plans is to have two Real Ales, one from Brakespears range and Marstons Pedigree.

So its good to have positive news about one of the branches oldest pubs, especially one thats on the Camra National Herritage Pubs list.

Pubs and Clubs Open from April

Member Jim Brunt has produced a very useful and welcome map showing you which pubs are open from April 17th. Click on the link to take you to the map. A few caveats – we arent yet aware of the status of some pubs, but we will update as soon as people tell us they are open, or members inform us a pub is open. Also some pubs are operating a booking system so its best to call them before you visit – you could be disappointed.

Many thanks to Jim for his hard work.

Pub beer gardens opening

Across the country, pubs are now permitted to serve in outdoor areas only (with “outdoor” being defined the same as for smoking areas – if space has a roof, 50% of more of the walls must be open). Thankfully councils across the region are also allowing extended use of pavements and closed streets.

CAMRA branches across the region have been actively updating the listings on WhatPub.com with information on which pubs are opening when, which pubs require bookings and who is welcoming “walk ups”.

Click here to see listings for across Greater Manchester…

It’s table service only everywhere and all customers must either check in using the NHS Test and Trace app or log their contact details with the pub for Test & Trace purposes. These aren’t the pub’s rule, it’s the governments – so please don’t argue with their server.

Wrap up warm – hopefully it will warm up soon.

Manchester Pubs Matter Beer Festival

MPMF Logo light background 1The pandemic has ruled out Manchester Beer & Cider Festival returning to the city in 2021. But for beer lovers in the city and beyond, the loss of the physical festival is the least of our worries.

Pubs up and down the country have been struggling to eek out any kind of existence since the first lockdown closed all their doors back in March 2020. And Greater Manchester’s pubs have been under lockdown or severe restrictions more than anywhere else in the country.

At Manchester Beer and Cider festival we love beer and cider. But it was the pubs that let us discover the great ales and gorgeous ciders while socialising with friends and family. Pubs are a vital part of our social fabric and we want to say as loud as we can that PUBS MATTER.

So at Manchester Beer and Cider Festival we have  teamed up with five of Greater Manchester’s finest pubs to bring you the Manchester Pubs Matter Festival.

The Manchester Pubs Matter Festival will run from Wednesday 17th to Saturday 20th February 2021.

For details of how to participate see the MBCF web site

CAMRA’s Golden Awards

To celebrate, CAMRA wants to recognise 50 people, groups of people or businesses that have made a significant contribution to CAMRA’s aims.

Do you know any person or business you think worthy of a nomination? These do not need to be CAMRA members, but anyone who in the past 50 years has gone above and beyond to further the aims of CAMRA. It could be a publican, brewer/producer, pub/club champion, or a campaigner for beer, cider or perry for example.

Nominations are now open and will close on 16 March 2021 (our 50th anniversary).  For details see: https://camra.org.uk/50-years/golden-awards/
